Bellydance

Bellydance

With origins in the Middle East, belly dance is an expressive dance form that is continually gaining popularity in the Western world.  Combining fitness and fun, belly dance is a fantastic stress reliever and self confidence booster.  Utilizing movements that are natural to the human body, belly dance is a weight bearing exercise that can be done by anyone regardless of fitness level, age or body type.

Some of the many health benefits of belly dance include: increased range of motion, strengthening of the core muscles, relief of back pain, improved brain and memory function, proper alignment and posture, flexibility, and feelings of joy.

This level one fusion class is perfect for beginners or dancers with some experience.  Classes include some or all of the following: warm up stretches, isolations of the chest and hips, shimmy drills, cross floor exercises, strength and core conditioning, as well as a short choreography.  This class is all about having fun in a supportive environment! Get your cardio and core workout in one!  No dance experience necessary.

Bunny started belly dancing in 2003 as a fun way to get into shape. She was attracted to the strong, sensual movements, and kept finding more and more to love about the dance. With an ever growing passion for dance and fitness, Bunny has taken a variety of workshops and classes in various genres including: Jazz, hip hop, West African, ballet, bollywood, Zumba, and tribal fusion. Some of these influences can be found in her teaching style. When not dancing, she is likely running or reading. Bunny is currently a member of Sacred Centre Dance Company, a performing troupe under the direction of Artistic Director and choreographer Nath Keo. Bunny is also a devoted participant in the annual International Shimmy Mob event, and has been team leader for Victoria since 2013. This event raises funds and awareness for local women’s shelters in participating cities, and promotes belly dance in the community. For more information, please visit: www.shimmymob.com
